Simbang Gabi is a novena of Masses in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Expectant Mother of God, and in preparation for the commemoration of the birth of our Saviour. Isang kinaugaliang pagdaraos ng misa tuwing panahon ng Kapaskuhan.
The nativity scene or Belen ay ipinapakita bilang paghahanda sa pagdiriwang ng kapanganakan ni Jesus Christ. Ipinapakila nita ang sanggol na si Jesus in the manger with Mother Mary and Saint Joseph. There are shepherds and farm animals. Isang kumpletong senaryo ng Belen ay kinabibilangan ng tatlong wise men carrying their gifts to the infant Jesus and the star of Bethlehem that guided them in the journey.
Tinatawag din itong Misa de Gallo which means Night Mass is a series of Catholic Masses in the Philippines during the nine days before Christmas. Nagsisimula ang simbang gabi tuwing ika-16 hanggang ika-24 ng Disyembre bago ipagdiriwang ang kapanganakan ni Hesukristo.
